The CREATE project was designed by Glenwood Business Centre in 2002. The objective of the project was to capitalise upon the indigenous creative talent of West Belfast, whilst addressing many of the perceived barriers of a creative and enterprising culture. With funding from DEL and Belfast Regeneration Office the project was rolled out in 2003. The demand for the project and its ultimate success far exceeded the expectations of the project promoters and its funders. The realisation was that there existed potential for CREATE to extend outside of West Belfast and untimely beyond the North of Ireland.
In 2006 Glenwood Business Centre partnered with Castlereagh Enterprise Ltd, Louth County Enterprise Board and Cavan County Enterprise Board to seek funding to roll the project out across Belfast and the Border Counties. The project was successful and received funding through the Cross-Border Consortium under the EU Peace Programme and part-financed by the UK and Irish Governments.
The project itself has evolved and has seem many new elements to its content including best practice visits, residentials, showcase events, and this CREATE website. During 2006 and 2007 over 80 participants from North and South of Ireland have taken part in the CREATE programme and feedback has been excellent.
Glenwood Business Centre will continue to develop the CREATE project and will work towards the on-going development of a cross border network which will promote and support the wealth and breadth of the creative and artistic talent on the island of Ireland.
